Marine Surveying

Kaufman Design and Mike Kaufman, our principal marine surveyor, have been doing marine surveys for more than 30 years. We survey power, sail and small commercial vessels and perform pre-purchase, insurance and damage-loss surveys.

Kaufman Design brings a special edge to the competitive field of marine surveying with our design and engineering background. In the course of our surveys, not only do we evaluate the vessel against USCG, ABYC and NFPA standards, but our own standards learned through the course of doing design and engineering for the past 30 years.

Mike Kaufman is NAMS-CMS, a National Association of Marine Surveyors Certified Marine Surveyor (CMS), and has served as Regional Director and Chairman of the Membership Screening Committee for that organization. He has also been a mentor for other surveyors who are working towards their CMS certification, no easy process as it requires that the applicant apprentice with a NAMS-CMS and work as an Associate for a total of three years, perform 200 surveys, be accepted by a screening committee and then pass a written test.

Kaufman Design is on Boat U.S.'s preferred list of surveyors and our surveys are accepted by all insurance underwriters and lending institutions.
