Custom Design Sail & Power

If you are considering a new boat purchase of over 40 feet, you owe it to yourself to consider building the boat you want. Why settle for something close when you're spending this kind of money.

A custom-built boat is only slightly more expensive than a high quality production boat in either sail or power. Watch your ideas for your boat go from:

Idea --> Design --> Reality

Designs are available as stock plans or as custom designs.

Some recent custom designs:

Kaufman Design—Custom Runabout & Plans, Severn 20, a 20' mahogany runabout, our most recent custom boat with a twist. The "Severn 20" is being produced complete and as plans for amateur builders. She is styled after a 1940's Chris Craft runabout, but she is built using modern epoxy building techniques. While designed to be built by the home builder, she's no slouch. The prototype speed was 50 knots with 4 people on board!

Kaufman Design—Power Cruiser, Thomas Point, a power cruiser line designed to be good-looking, soft-riding, comfortable, quick, and seaworthy. They are available in lengths of 28, 34, 36, 38, and 43 feet and built of cedar and plywood using the WEST™ system. This boat began as a custom design for builder Mast and Mallet Boatworks, however word got out and they now build it on a semi-custom basis. As of summer 2001, 11 hulls had been built or commissioned.
